THE BABY NAME GAME
“What’s in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet.”
Romeo and Juliet (II, ii, 1-2)
Choosing a name for your baby can be a fun game to play for the 9 months that you are expecting. Some have saved their favorites stretching back to childhood. Others have a feeling early on in the pregnancy that the tiny kicks in their belly belong to a Jonathan, Sarah or Zack. For me, the “girl names” were the easy ones. In fact, my husband and I earlier on agreed on one had the stork delivered pink. But, when we found out we were going to blessed with a bouncing baby boy it took us many months, in fact two whole days after he was born, to decide on the perfect name. Looking at him now…I know that we chose well. I simply can’t see him named anything else. We achieved our goal of finding a name that slightly gave a nod to a portion of his heritage, a link to an elder, one that was non-traditional but familiar and friendly—yet strong, and one that would carry him from our arms into adulthood.
